How to play
- Start typing any current NFL player's name and choose him from the list.
- A row of six clues appears, one for each column:
- Team: green if he plays for the same team.
- Division: green for the same division, yellow for the same conference.
- Position: green for the same position, yellow for the same position group.
- Age: green if exact, yellow within two years, with an arrow toward the answer.
- Height: green if exact, yellow within two inches, with an arrow.
- Jersey: green if exact, yellow within two numbers, with an arrow.
- Use the clues to find the mystery player within eight guesses.
Position groups
A yellow Position tile means your guess plays in the same part of the field. The groups are:
- Quarterbacks: QB
- Skill positions: RB, WR, TE
- Offensive line: OL
- Defensive line: DL
- Linebackers: LB
- Defensive backs: DB
- Special teams: K, P, LS
A smart way to start
Open with a player whose numbers sit in the middle. A 26-year-old who is around six foot one tells you more about Age and Height than a veteran or a rookie, because the arrow splits the options either way.
Pin down the conference early. Division gives you a yellow for the right conference, which cuts the league in half after one guess.
Then chase the team. Once you know the division, you are down to four teams. A guess on each of the likeliest two will usually find it.
Use jersey numbers. Numbers still loosely follow position in the NFL (linemen wear higher numbers, for example), so the Jersey arrow and the Position clue work well together.
Save one guess for the name. With two or three players left who match every clue, pick the one that would split them, not your favorite.
Why guess from clues
This is the same idea as a daily word game, where each guess tells you something about the answer. Here the letters are replaced by what fans already know: who plays where, how old they are and what number they wear. Casual fans can win with good guessing. Fans who know depth charts will win in three.
Daily and unlimited
The Daily player is the same for everyone today and counts toward your streak. When you finish, share a grid of colored squares that shows how you got there, without naming him.
Unlimited picks a random current player each time you finish. It is good practice during the week and good fun on game day.
