TTile Streak

How a round works

Every spelling round on Tile Streak pulls 10 words from a page's list. For each word, your browser reads the word aloud, then reads a short sentence that uses it. You type what you heard. That's the whole loop: listen, type, move to the next word.

The words and sentences are read using your browser's built-in voice, the same one your device already uses to read pages aloud elsewhere. There's no separate voice actor or special recording behind it, so the exact sound depends on your browser and operating system.

Two modes handle that loop differently.

Practice mode is forgiving. Type the word and if it's exact, you move on. If you're one letter off, the game tells you it was close and lets you try that word again before moving on. It's built for learning a list, not for pressure.

Test mode is stricter. You get one try per word, no retries. At the end you get a score out of 10, along with a printable word list and a printable answer sheet, so the same round can be marked or reviewed away from the screen.

A few example words, to show the format

These are examples only, not the words on any live round.

Pencil: "Please sharpen your pencil before we start the test."

Yellow: "The old school bus was painted a bright yellow."

Circle: "Draw a circle around the word you think is correct."

Hearing a word and its sentence together, the way these examples show it, is exactly what happens in a real round: the sentence gives context, not just the raw word.

Tips for getting more out of a round

Listen twice if you can. If your browser lets you replay the word, use it. Hearing a word a second time before typing catches sounds you might have missed the first time.

Say it back before you type it. Repeating the word out loud, even quietly, forces you to notice every syllable instead of guessing at the shape of the word.

Use practice mode first. Run a list in practice mode once before trying it as a test. The retry on a close miss turns a wrong answer into a chance to fix it right away.

Read the sentence, not just the word. The example sentence is there to show how the word is actually used. It also helps with words that sound like other words but are spelled differently.

Come back to the same list. A word that's shaky the first time round is often solid the second or third time. A few short sessions, spread out, beat one long one.

What makes it different

There's no account and nothing to install. A round runs entirely in the browser, using the browser's own voice to read words aloud rather than a separate recorded file for every word. That keeps every list flexible: a custom list typed in today sounds exactly the same as one built from a grade page.

Test mode's printable list and answer sheet mean a round doesn't have to stay on a screen. A parent or teacher can hand out a paper version, read the words aloud themselves if they'd rather, and mark the answer sheet afterward.

For teachers and classrooms

A spelling round works well as a short warm-up or a Friday check. Pick a grade page, run it in practice mode as a class activity first, then switch to test mode for a quick, scored check. Because each round is only 10 words, it fits into a few minutes without needing a whole lesson built around it.

The printable list and answer sheet from test mode double as a paper backup for days when screens aren't available, or as a take-home sheet for extra review.

Questions

Do I need an account to play?

No. There is no sign-up and no login. Open a spelling page and start a round. Progress and past scores are kept only in the browser on your device.

How does the game read words aloud?

Each word and its example sentence are read aloud using your browser's built-in voice. There is no separate narrator or special recording, so the voice you hear is whatever your browser and device already provide.

What is the difference between practice and test mode?

Practice mode lets you retry: if you type a word and miss by one letter, it tells you that you were close and gives you another try. Test mode gives one try per word and scores you out of 10 at the end.

Can I print a spelling list or a test?

Yes. Test mode produces a printable word list and a printable answer sheet, so a round can be run on paper as well as on screen.

Is there a spelling game for a specific grade?

Yes. There are dedicated pages for several grades, including 6th grade and 7th grade, with more grades planned as the word lists are built out.

Can I use my own word list?

Yes. The custom list page lets you paste your own words and get a link to a spelling round or test built from that list, with no account needed.
